Canberra Leather is a small, independent leather restoration studio based in Fyshwick, ACT. We were established in 2021 by a team with more than fifteen years of combined leather restoration experience across furniture, automotive, marine and aviation work.

The story

Built around one idea: restore, don't replace.

We started Canberra Leather because too many quality leather lounges and car interiors were being replaced when they could have been restored for ten percent of the cost. The big franchise repair chains in Canberra tend to optimise for speed and volume — same scripts, same finishes, same margin targets — and good leather pieces deserve more thought than that.

The team behind the studio has more than fifteen years of combined experience working on every kind of leather you encounter in Australia: Italian-import lounges, Australian premium brands like Moran and King Living, Japanese and German luxury vehicle interiors, marine cabin upholstery, and small-aircraft cockpit leather. We've seen what ages well, what ages badly, and how to bring almost any piece back to a state that's genuinely indistinguishable from new.

We chose Geist as our primary product system because it's the European professional standard — used by tannery technicians and OEM interior shops, not the DIY-kit market. Custom dye-matching, true colour fidelity, and a sealer that holds for years rather than months. Every job we finish carries a 12-month workmanship warranty.

What we believe

Three rules we don't bend.

  • Quote in writing, before any work begins.

    Every quote is firm and itemised. No surprises on the day, no scope creep, no variation invoices unless you've approved them in writing.

  • Restore the leather, don't repaint it.

    Painting over leather is fast and looks fine for a year. We use Geist's penetrating colour system so the leather itself is restored — flexible, breathable, and durable for a decade or more.

  • If we can't do it well, we won't take the job.

    Some leather is past restoration. We'll tell you honestly when that's the case rather than charging for work that won't last. Bonded leather past 90% peel, deeply UV-degraded substrates, certain heavy-pet pieces — we'll explain when replacement is the right call.

Our studio is in Fyshwick. From there we cover every Canberra suburb, every Queanbeyan postcode, and the rural-residential acreages across the surrounding region. No call-out fee anywhere within the ACT.
