Leather couch cleaning —
but done properly.
Professional pH-balanced clean and condition
Most “leather cleaning” products sold in supermarkets are pH-aggressive and strip protective coatings. Professional cleaning uses Geist pH-balanced cleaner, soft application and immediate re-conditioning — removing contaminants without damaging the finish.
From $199 · Typically 5–15% of replacement cost

Why it happens
What actually accumulates on a leather couch
Leather looks clean long after it actually is. Most couches we deep-clean for the first time release a noticeable amount of body oil, dust and product residue — even when they pass the wipe test. Here's what builds up over time.
Read: why does leather crack?Body oils and skin cells
Sit on a couch for a year and you leave behind a measurable layer of skin oil and dead skin cells. They feed bacteria, dull the finish and gradually break down the topcoat.
Dust and pollen
Canberra's high pollen counts and dry summers drive serious dust into the grain. A quality vacuum + Geist clean lifts what household dusting cannot.
Hand cream and sunscreen
Particularly bad on armrests and headrests. Cream-based products soak in and leave a sticky, slightly darker patch over time.
Pet dander
Dander accumulates in the grain and around seams. Cleaning removes it without harsh chemicals — important for households with allergies.
Food and drink residue
Even when wiped immediately, food acids etch the topcoat at a microscopic level. Regular cleaning prevents permanent damage.
Old DIY product residue
Many couches we work on have layers of supermarket leather sprays still on them. We strip these residues so subsequent conditioning actually penetrates.
Pricing
From $199 —
no surprises.
Cleaning is the right call when the leather is in good structural condition but dirty. If your leather is cracking, peeling, fading or discolouring, cleaning alone will not fix it — we'll recommend restoration instead, honestly.

Leather types we restore
Different leather, different approach.
Identifying the leather is the first thing we do on every job — the wrong product on the wrong leather can ruin a panel in minutes. Here's what we work with most often in Canberra homes and cars.
Full grain
The strongest, most natural-looking leather — used on premium couches and luxury car seats. Develops patina and responds beautifully to restoration.
Top grain
The most common furniture leather. Sanded and pigmented for consistency. Cracks and colour fades respond extremely well to recolouring.
Aniline & semi-aniline
Soft, dye-through leathers favoured by Italian and Scandinavian brands. Sensitive to UV and oils — usually needs gentle cleaning plus protective conditioner.
Pigmented (protected)
Coated leather with a colour film on top. The most durable and most repairable — colour matching gets it back to factory finish in nearly all cases.
Bonded leather
Composite material with a leather coating. Often peels rather than cracks. We can patch, recolour and seal small areas — but full panels eventually need recovering.
Nubuck & suede
Brushed-finish leathers. Cleaned with specialised foam and re-napped — never solvent-cleaned. Stains come out far more often than people expect.

After“We thought our lounge needed restoration. Sam came out, cleaned it properly and conditioned it for $349 — said honestly we didn't need full restoration yet. It looks brand new. Refreshing to deal with someone who didn't oversell.”
Why it matters who you choose
Independent specialist
vs franchise network.
Most Canberra customers don't realise until the quote arrives that the national brand they just rang is a franchise — with franchise fees, a call centre and a variable local operator.
Franchise network
The usual experience
- Franchise fees passed to clients
- You deal with a call centre — not your technician
- Quality varies by individual franchisee
- Generic national products and processes
- Response time depends on territory operator

Send a photo now →If you can wipe the leather with a damp cloth and it looks evenly coloured underneath, cleaning is probably enough. If you see cracking, fading, peeling or patchy colour, cleaning will only go so far — you need restoration.
We don't recommend it. Most retail products are too alkaline for modern automotive and furniture leather and strip the protective topcoat. A stripped topcoat leaves the pigment exposed — which is why DIY cleaning often causes colour loss.
Once every 12–18 months for light use, every 6–9 months for heavy use (kids, pets, daily use). We can schedule maintenance visits so it's never a “how long has it been?” situation.
