Process
Quote. Restore. Protect.
- 01
Re-bond and tighten
Lift the lifted edge, clean the substrate, apply heat-resistant automotive adhesive, re-bond and clamp until cured. The repair is rated for cabin temperatures up to 90°C.
- 02
Fill worn areas
If the leather or vinyl has worn through to the substrate — driver bolster commonly does — we fill, blend and texture-match the surface back to factory pebble grain.
- 03
Recolour
Match the factory colour using BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Volvo, Porsche or Lexus factory match data. Apply in passes so the colour fuses with the surface, not just coats it.
- 04
Seal
UV-resistant topcoat — the result is invisible under the surrounding panel, and lasts as long as the rest of the door card.
Why it happens
Why door cards fail on premium European cars
Most European premium cars (BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Volvo, Volkswagen) use leather or high-grade vinyl wrapped over a plastic backing card, glued at the edges and seams. The factory glue isn't formulated for Australian summer cabin temperatures (45°C+ on hot days). After 5–8 years it fails — the wrap lifts at the corners, then progressively across the panel. Driver-side door cards see the worst because of the constant ingress and egress force.
Read: why does leather crack?BMW
3 Series, 5 Series, 7 Series, X3, X5 — door cards typically peel at the front-edge curve where the wrap rolls over the metal frame. Driver bolster wear-through after 60,000 km is normal.
Mercedes-Benz
C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, GLC, GLE — armrest tops fail first, then the driver kick zone. The cream and beige colour codes are sensitive to denim dye transfer.
Audi
A4, A6, A8, Q5, Q7 — perforated leather panels lose dye through the perforation holes, and the thin glued edges lift after 6–7 years.
Volkswagen & Volvo
Touareg, Tiguan, Passat, XC60, XC90, V90 — same construction, same failure pattern. We have factory colour data for all of them.
Heat cycling
A car parked in direct Canberra summer sun reaches 60°C+ inside. The factory glue is rated for ~70°C — every hot day gets it closer to the failure threshold.
Daily ingress force
Every time you swing into the driver's seat, your hip rotates against the bolster. Over 30,000–60,000 ingress cycles, even premium leather wears through to the substrate.
Pricing
From $199 —
no surprises.
Dealers don't repair door cards — they replace them. A new factory door card panel for a BMW 5 Series is $1,200–$2,400 plus 2–3 hours of fitment labour. Our repair is $249–$449 on-site in 90 minutes. All quotes firm and in writing. No surprise upcharges.

Why it matters who you choose
Independent specialist
vs franchise network.
Most Canberra customers don't realise until the quote arrives that the national brand they just rang is a franchise — with franchise fees, a call centre and a variable local operator.
Franchise network
The usual experience
- Franchise fees passed to clients
- You deal with a call centre — not your technician
- Quality varies by individual franchisee
- Generic national products and processes
- Response time depends on territory operator

Yes — for any BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Volvo, Porsche or Lexus colour we have factory match data on file. For older or unusual cars we can also colour-match by physical sample against a hidden panel.
